ThirdEye App For Blind To Recognize Objects With Ease
It’s always difficult for people dealing with blindness to recognize objects. For making object recognition easier, a new Android and iOS app is launched by three students, Rajat Bhageria, Ben Sandler, and Joe Cappadona, computer science majors at the University of Pennsylvania. The project was started as a Google Glass app and then the focus shifted to mobile apps i.e. ThirdEye app.
The key behind developing this app is to empower visually impaired individuals. Yes, and the best way to empower is by giving them the liberty to recognize day-to-day objects. The individuals just have to press one button and the app would tell them verbally whatever object the user pointed to with the phone withing seconds. Currently, the app also works on recognizing road signs.
They have a storage of millions of images updated every day to make it easier to recognize a lot of images.

How ThirdEye app works
Hold you phone in front of an object you want to recognize and press the “Recognize This” button. After that just wait for a couple of seconds for ThirdEye app to return an audio to your ears. That said, need not worry about the location of buttons, since they occupy large space (almost half the screen).
Hold you phone in front of some text you want to recognize and press the “Read This” button. After that just wait for a couple of seconds for ThirdEye app to return an audio to your ears.
If the item you want to recognize is potentially dangerous, it returns a “Alert” message warning. As stated:
Returns a Alert Message warning you if the item you recognized could be potentially dangerous (such as medicine) and to ask for help before taking the medicine. (Note: Please note that this alert message will be triggered on every potentially dangerous item simply because of the sheer number of potentially dangerous items; we have done our best to try to add as many objects as we think could be dangerous, but you should use your own judgement) Terms of Service:
